Top 10 Beaches
1.
St. Petersburg, FL - Located on the left side of Florida is the little peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. I love St. Pete for its white sand beaches, convenience in location and how inexpensive it was to feel like I was in Paradise.
2.
Pattaya Beach, Thai Land- 62 Miles from Bangkok, this was shockingly beautiful. I went on a 5 Day 4 Nights stay: hotel, transportation, tour guide, 3 meals a day tour with
Saigon Tourist for $350 USD in 2004 from Vietnam. On the second day of the trip, we were all wondering after airfare and hotel, how did it cover all the expenses. That trip deserves a whole other blog by itself. Lets just say it was well worth if and I found my number 2 favorite beach. Best part about beaches in Asia is that people walk up to you and sell you things to eat like drinks and great foods and best of all CRAB! i bought 3 crab for about $10 USD. I also got to go parasailing. That was a lot of fun!
3. Lanikai Beach, Hawaii - I discovered this beach when I lived in Hawaii for College. It's located on the main tourist island Oahu. It takes about a 30 minute drive and when you get there it doesn't feel touristy at all. It is quite peaceful. The sand is not rocky and the water does not have too much reef. Reef scares me because I've witnessed some gnarly cuts from surfers. I'll save my dare devil adventures for something else. I love this place, I just sit and let the wind blow my hair and soak up my Vitamin D thinking in my head if I were a bum, this would be it.
4. La Hola, San Diego - Great Mexican food, Beautiful homes, amazing drop off views, and the big crashing waves. This place is just breath taking. First time I went there to visit my best friend who moved down there 8 years ago we saw a seal on the sand. This past summer I went back to visit her and took my kids and we just had an amazing time. Best fish tacos of my life! The water was too cold to swim but the weather was hot enough to chase the crashing waves. This is definetley my go beach on the West Coast.
5. Magic Island, Hawaii - This beach is located in the heart of Honolulu and right by the main mall Ala Moana. I used to go here before work and just park my Pink Motor Cycle, pull out my mango that I picked on the way there and just people watch. There is everything you can think of at this beach: surfers, tourist, pot heads, joggers, hookers, hustlers, the whole nine! The funny thing is, every time I go back to Magic Island, the same weed smokers are sitting in their van. I'm like, "Hey! same thing different day nothing has changed." It's the island life. Its a great go to beach in the city but since its off to the end its not too crowded. They also put in a long big rock wall far out at shore break so the waves don't come in all the way. Great beach for kids to wade and play.
6. Hood Canal, Washington- Now I have to go back to my roots. I am a die hard Washingtonian. Ever since I moved here from Vietnam in 1986, I have discovered a million reasons why I love the Pacific Northwest. Well moving to Hawaii for college actually made me appreciate more as well. Hood Canal is on the windy coast of Washington. Just 45 min drive from Sea-Tac airport and it has a endless amount of seafood (what I live for). My family and I always rents a house twice a year along the hood canal coast so we can enjoy the beautiful views and harvest our clams, geoduck, oysters, snails, sand crab, seaweed, and crab. The food just take better when you know you used your own two hands to catch it, clean it and prepare it. It is such a great mini vacation. I look forward to it every year and I always want to go there every weekend but I force myself to discover new places. Im having seafood withdrawls right now as I'm typing. Eek!
7. Orcas Island, Washington - In Continuation with my I love Washington roll, I love Orcas Island. The views are unbeatable and the ferry ride there on a hot summers day is just phenomenal. When you are on the island it has the very small town feel. It's very cute and refreshing, you feel as if you traveling across states to get there but it only took a few hours. Make sure you check the
WA Ferry schedule and plan your trip ahead. It gets very busy in the summertime, but its fun to hang out at the ferry docks and eat ice cream before the ferry gets there.
8. Nassau, Bahamas- Small Island East of Florida and belongs to the Bahamas, I had so much fun here because of the color fish and the amazing warm water. When I jumped in the water I didn't realize ocean water could be so warm. It almost felt like a warm hot tub that was on its way to getting hot. I know sounds weird but it was shockingly warm! Try the Soursop drink while you are there as well. Very tasty. Reminds me of Vietnam. I love tropical fruit.
9. Enatai Beach Park, Bellevue WA - Located right under off I-90 and under the the bridge is a beautiful hideaway with sand and a kids playground. You can rent canoes or kayaks or go paddle boarding. Its a great 10 min drive from Seattle for some sun and mid day adventure.
10. Alki Beach, Washington - Last but not least! Everyone who lives or grew up in Seattle knows about Alki Beach. Its small but always a local gathering spot when the sun makes an apperance after all those long months of rain and clouds. Only Seattle people know how great it feels when summer actually starts and the excitements hits. People start dressing less and they finally get haircuts. Everyone pulls out their low riders, muscle cars, rice rockets, scooter, skeeter, motorcycle you name it! Alki is also the best side to take a picture of the city of Seattle because it is directly across from it. Home is always where the heart is!
